Q: Do you have recommendations on prepping the plates for paint?

A: Lindsey has a lot of experience with preparation on wood thanks to her past installation exhibits painting maple skateboard decks. Her suggestion: “In regards to the preparation of the plates, I use a primer called “Gesso”. Its a white, pure acrylic polymer emulsion and can be found in most any art store. Gesso is great for preparing a surface to be painted, it smooths out the canvas and leaves it clean and ready to paint! It works especially well on the Dragon Motif plates. I look forward to seeing what the other artists do with the plates – it’s really neat to see the unique approaches to painting the same pieces.”
